Capital Pride is right around the corner. Here's a look at what you need to know ahead of events and road closures including the Capital Pride Parade, Block Party, Festival, and other ways to celebrate Washington DC’s LGBTQ+ community.
On Saturday, June 8th, the parade will kick off at 3 p.m. at 14th and T Streets NW. The parade will move along 14th Street to Freedom Plaza, turning on Pennsylvania Avenue, and will finish at 9th Street NW.
On its 49th year, this new parade route is fundamentally different than in previous years. The change, according to parade organizers Capital Pride Alliance, is due to the event’s year-over-year growth rendering the traditional route through the Dupont Circle neighborhood too small. More than 600,000 revelers are projected to attend this year's parade.
Also contributing to the decision to change the route is the anticipation of next year’s event. The 2025 parade will mark the 50th annual DC Pride, and the city will also host WorldPride.
The Block Party will be on 17th Street in the historic Dupont Circle neighborhood, between P and S Streets NW. This party will feature local food, adult beverages, and various activities, 12 p.m. until 10 p.m.
The festival is set for Sunday, June 9th at 12 p.m. to 10 p.m., on Pennsylvania Avenue, between 3rd and 7th Streets NW. Entrance is on 7th Street NW, the Food Court is located on 6th Street NW; and the Family Fun Zone is on 4th Street NW.
Attendees can enjoy a full day of entertainment on three stages, food, drink, and advocacy with more than 300 exhibitors.
The Capitol Stage sits at the east end of the festival on Pennsylvania Avenue at 3rd Street NW with the US Capitol as the backdrop. It will showcase some of the best LGBTQ+ talent and headlining international entertainers including Sapphira Cristál, Keke Palmer, and Billy Porter.
